Less Lethal

Hydro-Kinetic, Impact Bag,
12 Gauge

Description: A direct fire 12 gauge round which fires an aerodynamic, liquid filled, impact projectile with marking capabilities and behavior modification. This round was designed for single target engagement allowing escalation of force from a close distance prior to use of lethal means.

History/Background: The HYDRO-KINETIC IMPACT PROJECTILE was developed to overcome the shortcomings of conventional bean bag ammunition. Fired from 6 feet to 25 feet the HYDRO-KINETIC IMPACT PROJECTILE produces a very painful stinging effect while reducing the chance of penetration to virtually none. With most conventional bean bag ammunition fired at distances closer than 21 feet there is a potential of penetration factor. The HYDRO-KINETIC IMPACT PROJECTILE was developed for close range urban environment situations where penetration issues prevent an officer from using conventional bean bag ammunition.

Potential Targets/Applications: Close Range Tactical Entries, Urban Environments, Individual Targets, Suspect Apprehension, Prison/Civil Rioters, and Animal Control/Conditioning.

Primary Users: Law Enforcement, Military

Incapacitation Mechanism/Technology: The Hydro-Kinetic Impact Projectile fires a 70 grain bag projectile, producing controlled and directed incapacitation at a close proximity to the subject.

Physical Data:
A. Size: Length= 2.5 inch, 12 gauge SAAMI specification
B. Projectile Weight: 70 grains / 4.5 grams
C. Power Requirements: None

Performance Characteristics:
A. Effect on target: Incapacitation caused by loss of breath, psychological effect, and/or pain and extreme discomfort.
B. Time to Effect: Instantaneous
C. Duration of Effect: Seconds to Minutes based on distance and location of strike.
D. Effective Range: 2 yards to 8 yards

Climate Limitations: -15 degrees Fahrenheit to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Delivery Means: 12 gauge shotgun, cylinder bore required. (check with accompanying go/nogo gauge).

Operational Strengths: Most officers are trained with the use of 12 gauge. Uses standard issue weapons, requires no special equipment.

Operational Limitations: Countermeasures:
A. Shields, heavy flora, natural or man-made cover or concealment
B. Weather/Environment Limitations: Dense fog limits target acquisition
C. Legal, fratricide, multi-shot/recycle time, number of shots, shot/long term human effects: Pump shotguns can be recycled at two second intervals providing multiple target acquisition.
D. Level of incapacitation may be affected based on individual mental state, motivation, physical characteristics or drug/alcohol intoxication level.
E. Up to 50 % rupture of gel pack may occur with rifled barrels.

Storage: Store in Cool and Dry Area.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Never aim at or above the Sternum. Less Lethal Ammunition can cause contusions, abrasions, broken ribs, concussions, loss of eyes, superficial organ damage, serious skin lacerations, massive skull fractures, rupture of the heart or kidney, fragmentation of the liver, hemorrhages, and death. Medical assistance should be contacted immediately after an actual deployment of a less lethal munition even if no physical injuries appear on subject or subjects.
Penetration, though not a desired effect, can occur regardless of manufacturer or design.
